UP PCS

UPPCS is the popular name of the exam - Uttar Pradesh Combined State/Upper Subordinate Exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The UPPCS is the name derived from Uttar Pradesh Provincial Civil Services.

 

UPPSC Eligibility - PCS Exam Qualification, Age Limit

UPPSC Qualification


The educational qualification for the PCS exam is:

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognised University or equivalent qualification
There are also some post-specific PCS Exam qualifications which are given below.

UPPSC Age Limit


The PCS exam (Combined State/Upper Sub-ordinate Services Exam) age limit is:

Minimum age – 21 years
Maximum age – 40 years

Preliminary Examination

1-The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of 200 marks each and of two hours duration. Both the papers are of objective nature.
                  The Paper-I consists of 150 questions.
                  The Paper-II consists of 100 questions.
2-1/3rd of the allotted marks will be deducted in case of each wrong answer.
3- No marks will be deducted in case of an unattempted question.
4- Generally, the Paper-I is conducted from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and the Paper-II is conducted from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
5- It is mandatory for the Candidates to appear in both the papers of Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he does not appear in both in papers.
6- Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
7- The merit of the Candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-I of the Preliminary Examination.

Mains Examination and Interview

The second phase of the examination is of Conventional/Descriptive Type and only the candidates qualifying the preliminary examinations can give the mains examination.
The Written examination consists of following compulsory and optional subjects:

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS
1) General Hindi: 150 marks
2) Essay: 150 marks
3) General Studies (First Paper): 200 marks
4) General Studies (Second Paper): 200 marks
5) General Studies (Third Paper): 200 marks
6) General Studies (Fourth Paper): 200 marks
OPTIONAL SUBECT: For the optional subject opted by the candidate, two papers will be there, wherein each paper will be carrying 200 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.


Interview

The candidates that qualify the mains examination are called for interview and the interview is conducted by an experienced and impartial Board appointed by UPPSC.
The interview carries 100 marks.
It will relate to the matter of general interest keeping the matter of academic interest in view and for general awareness, intelligence, character, expression power/personality and general suitability for the service.
